The Ruse was built in 1883 by William “Squire” Butcher in the Victorian Italianate style. Butcher was wealthy, having made money during the California Gold Rush. He discovered gold after his wagon full of potbelly stoves collapsed due to the weight.

The current owners spent two years updating the rooms to a more contemporary décor, adding poolside suites, an 18-hole putting green, six pickleball courts, and a poolside pavilion where breakfast is served.

Do you play golf? Guests of The Ruse also have access to a variety of amenities offered at sister property Mayacama Golf Club,  including coveted tee times at the private golf course and treatments at the spa.

Your private E-Bike & Wine tour with Adventures in Cycling will include two winery stops (tasting fees included), lunch, walk through the vineyards, exercise, local stories, beautiful countryside.
